I think one of the things I have struggled a lot with is how I am perceived. I suspect it’s not just a me problem, especially because every institution you interact with, be it school, college/university, Church, home etc is always putting an emphasis on how important it is to maintain a certain image. And I get where they are coming from. However sometimes, the authenticity of evolving based on a lot of factors gets lost. We also must remember that there is a development that is happening shifting us from one stage to the next. The wisdom of our ancestors ensured we had rituals and ceremonies to mark this as well as elaborate instructions. Devoid of that in the modern society, I think Erick Erickson’s theory captures it very well. And therefore then when you make a shift from one stage to the other your personality and a lot of who you are will definitely change. It’s biological, psychological, emotional, spiritual and philosophical. Yet I suspect because we seem to move a long life so unconsciously, for the most part we never are prepared for this shifts, not even aware when they happen. Perhaps emotional crisis or what is termed as existential crisis is what forces us to stop and pay attention.
May be it helps to know you will keep evolving, and changing until it’s time to exit the planet same way there’s times and seasons for everything. And may be it’s because we are part of the earth so we also mimic that seasonal thing, and being conscious is what helps us prepare and not get overwhelmed by whatever season. Either way, this life business is quite something….
